Stolen ’55 Fender double neck extra long 8 string steel guitar
Last week my 83 year old father had his steel guitar stolen out of his car in Sierra Madre, California along with the case and a small amp. He purchased the instrument new and has been the sole owner. Unfortunately he has never recorded the serial numbers of the steel or the amp however this instrument is distinct in that he has cut 1/4 inch off each end of the steel so that it could fit into his case. The necks are extra long (8 inches longer then the regular non pedal steel) and each neck has 8 strings. He has played all his life and has also made two LP recordings along with Lorin Whitney. His most recent concert was this year at the Phoenix Symphony Hall at the personal invitation of Paul McDermand. It is our hope that this instrument can be recovered so that he can continue playing the music that he loves with that particular instrument. It has extreme sentimental value for him and for his family. I have a short video that I took of him this year playing the steel that ends with a close up showing what the steel looks like now. Unfortunately I don’t know how to isolate one frame so you will hear my silver haired daddy sing, “That Silver Haired Daddy of Mine”. 😀 Rather ironic, don’t you think? He is filing a police report so that it can be sent to the pawn shops but any help that you can give us would be much appreciated.
Thanks so much!
