Songs using the "strings 1 and 2 raised a whole and half" change
Is there an official, or unofficial, name for that knee lever pair of changes? I associate it with both Paul Franklin and Mike Johnson, and would like to know a few songs where it is prominently used. Thanks all.

Hi John,
I have not heard of a name for the change, but a song that I learned a lick using that change is "Amarillo by Morning" by George Strait. The lick is played in the 1st and 3rd verses, it's not prominent. I have that change on a pedal instead of a lever.
There was someone (it's been a while, I can't recall who) that showed how to do that lick just using the 2nd string 1/2 tone drop, (RKR) but doing it that way spans 4 frets instead of just 2.
1: -5L--5---3---5L--5
2:-5L--5---3---5L--5.
I think I set this up, right.
"L" is the lever (or pedal) you push to raise strings 1 and 2.
The alternate method is:
1: -5L--3---1---5L--3
2:-5L--3---1---5L--3.
In this case, L=RKR (that drops string 2 a half note).
One example.......Pat

Maybe call it 'The Unison lever? ' or the '1st & 2nd String Unison lever?'

PF used it way back when on Alan Jackson's "Living on Love", mainly the 1st string whole step raise

I"ve always called it the "Franklin Lever" as he overused it in the studio, especially on the Alan Jackson recordings. Some players started hating the change (do a search to see them) due to overuse. I personally like the changes, in moderation.

Aside from the unisons, I always looked at it as just another way to get a V-I or I-V inversion in another position.
Using that pedal picking strings 1 & 2 in any position sounds the same as using the A & B pedals 7 frets up picking strings 5 & 6.

That's how I've named it in my mind, as well, Rich. But thought something more official or at least universally used might be in current use.

I've got a page full of tab here for these changes:
https://www.gregcutshaw.com/Tab/E9%201s ... 20Tab.html
Here's another cool use as played at 1:45 into Gene Watson and Rhonda Vincent's new album (Your Money and My Good Looks) song also entitled "Your Sweet Love Ain't Around". It doesn't go into the flatted 5th but does use the 1st string F# to G# raise. Note the chord progression is from B to E to D so the last part of this riff is at the 3rd fret! 1st time through is normal speed, 2nd time is slower, 3rd time uses a slide into the 4th fret. You could easily add the flatted 5th move to this!

Here's Mickey Adams showing the solo to Daryle Singletary's version of "I Never Go Around Mirrors" where Mike uses the 1st & 2nd string raises. The 2nd string raise then lowered with 2nd string lower move opened a lot of doors for me. Brilliant solo.
